About Anne-Catherine Favier

BIOGRAPHY

Portrait

It is during a theatrical performance that a 12 year old Anne-Catherine Favier came to the realisation that art would be her means of expression.
She is a painter who studied the art of theater at the Montpellier Conservatory, and then that of painting using the méthode Martenot at the V. Griffon workshop.
Her artistic quest lies in letting chaotic landscapes embedded with light emerge from the deep and intimate magma.
For 25 years, she has been accompanying young people with disabilities. It is an opportunity for mutual exchange and development, particularly in terms of adaptation and hence of letting go, a process which is at the heart of her work.
She regularly exhibits in France (Galerie Mona Lisa, Artitude, Salon Carrousel du Louvre…) and abroad (Mövenpick in Geneva and most notably in China, where she has forged strong ties during her exhibitions in Shanghai, Beijing, Shenzhen, Dongguan... ) enabling her paintings to find their place in several private collections.
This link with China is also developing in France through the Centre Chinois d'Aunaie and the galerie Xing Hua in Paris.

A member of the Maison des Artistes since 2010, she also joined the artist community of La Condamine in 2022.
She will exhibit some of her works at the Art Shopping exhibition taking place at the
Carrousel du Louvre in october of 2022.

ARTISTIC APPROACH

My work is rooted in an intimate exploration.

This introspection enables not only to get in touch with our common roots, but also to reveal the deepest, most secret parts of ourselves.

This human magma and all its flaws and obscurities, from which the light emanates, is released onto the canvas as a true breath of life.

In my quest, I find myself drawn to Jeanne Bénameur, a writer of traces, silences and flaws.

Like her, I do not hide what is broken.

On the contrary, I let the light emerge from it in the manner of a Kintsugi.

Through the process of meditation, I find the necessary awareness, breath and release to reach this origin.

This encourages a deep descent, fundamental to capturing that which lies in the obscure realm of our consciousness.

These chaotic landscapes are expressed through abstraction, which in turn allows me to translate most effectively the energy of life.

More often than not, square formats are used as a means to provide an opportunity to further explore the work outside of the canvas.

Over several months, a dialogue with the material is created through successive glazes, so that the light appears through transparency.

These pictorial layers are not unlike life-creating geological layers. The palette, only element of certainty, contains very few colours.

By substituting the brush for my hands, thus manually mixing these oils and pigments, their colour and textural vibrations are allowed to resonate through the canvas.

My hope is that the viewer encounters this light.
